About Us

Derrick's career began in the world of offset printing, where he discovered a passion for learning the many facets of the industry. Among them, graphic design stood out as his true calling, allowing him to unleash his creativity and think outside the box. Over time, as digital printing emerged and began to replace offset printing, Derrick embraced this evolution as an opportunity for growth. This progression eventually led him to join Southern Custom Exhibits (SCE) in the fascinating world of museums.

During his 25 years at SCE, Derrick flourished in various roles, fueled by the creative challenges and opportunities the industry offered. He started by building and developing a comprehensive graphic production department, eventually becoming the company’s Graphic Director. With advancements in exhibit technology, museums began incorporating more electronic and digital interactives. Once again, Derrick seized the chance to expand his expertise, diving into interactive software and show control systems, which became his new passion. Through dedication and continuous learning, Derrick became the Technology Designer and Director, crafting robust tech exhibits that have stood the test of time.

Later, Derrick transitioned into the role of Lead Project Manager. Collaborating with SCE’s talented team, he had the privilege of designing, managing, and installing some of the most innovative and captivating exhibits in the field.

Meanwhile, Derrick's passion for creativity and learning inspired his daughter, Ashley, to follow in his footsteps by earning a degree in design. Like her father, Ashley embodies a drive for knowledge and creativity, while also bringing fresh, innovative ideas of her own as she hones her craft.

Derrick’s devotion to his family, creativity, and perpetual growth ultimately culminated in the creation of DAKS Design and Consulting. Excited to share this new chapter, Ashley has joined her father on this journey, bringing her unique perspective and talents to the venture.
